In every corner of this territory you can recognize marks of the past. Maremma is characterized with Etruscan and Roman ruins, castles and medieval villages, imposing fortresses as witness of almost two centuries of Spanish domination.

A territory rich in traditions
All these stories and these cultures are integrated into an architectural and landscape game where keywords are harmony and uniqueness. If the parochialism is the main distinctive character in Tuscany, each village in Maremma has its own traditions and architectures, its landscapes and its own cuisine.

Maremma and the Etruscan
To learn more about the Etruscan civilization very interesting are the cities of Vetulonia, near Castiglione della Pescaia, Roselle, the necropolis of Sovana and the fortified settlement of Ghiaccio Forte.

The Medieval and Neo-Gothic Maremma
Great attractive medieval buildings are Castiglione della Pescaia, the fortress Orsini Sorano, the Cassero del Sale and the Medici walls of Grosseto, the Chatedral of Massa Marittima and the San Rabano Abbey, inside the Nature Park of Maremma. And the ancient villages of Populonia and Pitigliano. In Grosseto, instead, the Aldobrandeschi Palace and the Cathedral are two wonderful examples of gothic revival architecture.
